Sliding Sash Windows
The 'Herald' Sash Window
Traditional sliding sash window with elegant slim glazing bars.
Windows are an important architectural feature of any property. Replacing the windows with anything other than traditional period windows that formed an integral part of the original design often upsets the whole equilibrium of the property. Reinstating the original windows brings the property back to life, adds value and provides a positive marketing asset in the event of the property being sold.
We have developed a high performance sliding sash window that complies with all new thermal regulations whilst maintaining a totally traditional appearance, satisfying conservation and aesthetic requirements. We can supply just the joinery or a fully fitted out window including glazing, lead weights and ironmongery.
Window features include:
Materials - The windows are constructed using traditional methods from European Redwood with hardwood sills as standard. Hardwood and engineered timber are available as options.
Mouldings -
- Single glazed: These are generally ovolo with 7/8" glazing bars.
- Double glazed: We offer a choice of either a slim, elegant applied glazing bar or a 1 1/2" traditional bar. We also offer an entirely bespoke service providing mouldings and horn details to match existing.
Pulleys & Weights -
We always fit top quality pulleys that can be free running nylon, chrome or brass as
selected. Windows can be made using traditional lead weights or spring balances.
Thermal and operational qualities -
Glazing - 20mm or 24mm double glazed units using low energy glass and
a cavity filled with argon gas for added insulation meeting current regulations.
Draft stripping - Our windows are fully draft-proofed with draft strip
seals on the parting beads, staff beads and meeting rails.
Easy slide seal - This facilitates a smooth operation and prevents any sticking
or rattling whilst simultaneously providing additional weather sealed protection.
Security - The windows are internally beaded to ensure that glazing units cannot be removed from the outside. We fit a good quality locking sash fastener in either brass or chrome according to preference. Optional restrictors can be fitted that restrict the window being opened more than a few inches to prevent entry and which also act as a safeguard for young children.
Other optional features include:
- Trickle vents
- Sash locks
- Choice of superior quality ironmongery

IMPORTANT NOTE ON BUILDING REGULATIONS
Many of our windows are supplied to listed buildings and to properties within conservation areas in which case we faithfully follow the original design. However, for any other property, since April 2002 all replacement windows are required to have building regulations approval. However, a self-assessment concession was made in that, if the windows are fitted by a registered installer of a self-assessment scheme, most commonly F.E.N.S.A (Fenestration Self-Assessment Scheme), building regulation approval is unnecessary.
